Roses love growing in Santa Barbara, and people love seeing and smelling and beautiful rose, but they are difficult and time consuming to maintain yourself. Roses are sun loving plants, and they need a minimum of six hours per day of sunlight. It is important to irrigate roses through their soil infrequently, and to not spray water on the plant itself as roses are susceptible to disease; drip irrigation is an effective way to moisturize the soil roses grow in. Lastly, roses require regular pruning as it helps promote growth, determine plant shape, and deter plant disease.
A benefit of living in Santa Barbara is that it is relatively warm year round. Vegetables appreciate warm weather, and the vast majority require at least six hours a day of sunlight, similar to roses, although you do not want to grow them together. However, many vegetables and herbs grow great together, and this is referred to as companion planting. Basil, rosemary, and sage are examples of herbs which grow well with other vegetables. Depending on your desires, we can recommend the best place for your garden, different high and low yielding vegetables, and what vegetables and herbs grow best together. Give us a call today, and we can discuss how our gardening service will best improve your landscape.
